Public Relations Chairman
The Public Relations Chairman is responsible for working with posts to identify individuals and methods of keeping local communities and membership informed of post activities and goals. Post programs and their effects on communities can only be appreciated when they are known about. The person selected at the post level must establish connections with local media, print or electronic, and be comfortable talking with them.
The Chairman receives information from the Department Chairman, The Department Fall Conference, and other mailings.
The Chairman disseminates information through the personal contact with post officers, District Bulletin, Facebook Page, Newsletter to all Post Commanders and Adjutants. The Chairman will have information and brochures available at Mid-Winter and District Convention.
The Chairman will
- Familiarize themself with the Public Relations handbook published by the American Legion National Headquarters.
- Learn the various tools they have available to assist posts in their public relations program.
- Educate posts with articles in the District Bulletin, emails, or social media.
- Attend and report to the District Mid-Winter and District Convention.
- Prepare a report for the Commander for distribution at the District Convention.
Attend the Department Convention and Department Fall Conference to get the most up-to-date information available.
